This mask is not ideal for wall hanging without some thought. It is best displayed on a table or shelf mount head stand. We used a stand to take photographs. Note the blue plaid cloth used in the photos has been blurred out so as to not distract from images of the Mask.

Solid wood forms the body of the mask - This has been carefully carved into the facial expression. No parts'applied' other than the rope netting HAIR which is typical of masks from this region. The shape of the squint eyes is also diagnostic of work from this tribal group. Of special interest are the forehead and cheek carved "incised" patterns. These are designed to simulate the cut/scar patterns used as adornments.

My speculation is the spirit depicted here is a female. Interior is partially'finished' - just at the top dome, where a padded cloth has been nailed in place. This indicates the mask was made to be WORN, however it's far too small to fit over my head.

The mask weighs in around 1.75 pounds. CONDITION: 9.25 out of 10 = EXCELLENT! The MASK looks great in every way - art is excellent at evoking an ancestral spirit of uncertain emotion.

The wood is solid, though there is a minor split in the forehead to the right of the insignia as viewed from the front. The hair rope netting is complex, and totally intact with a few fibers sticking out randomly. The paint at the eyes shows a bit of scabbing, as if this had been painted long ago, and repainted at some point, over the flakes of missing paint. Currently the paint is intact, but uneven. I've seen masks in museums that are lower quality than this example.
