A beautifully hand carved mask from the Yombe peoples, Congo / DRC, Africa. This is an "Nganga" divination mask from the Yombe or Bakongo peoples of the DRC/ Congo, central Africa.
The diviners are believed to have special powers, enabling them to determine the causes of various events & circumstances within the tribal community - including illness, natural disasters, etc. Such masks are thought to represent the spirits that are evoked by the diviners who wear them.The dimension is 10 inches high and 7 inches wide but with the display stand is 12 inches high.
